DanceRites continues the traditions that have taken place over tens of thousands of years on Bennelong Point, known to its traditional custodians as Tubowgule.

Each group will showcase their local storytelling and language in the Cultural Dance and Song cycle, competing in heats on Saturday and finals on Sunday, with many groups also performing an optional ‘Wild Card’ dance to demonstrate their unique style.

In 2018, Talanoa interviewed all of the Dance Rites groups about their dance groups and their journey to Dance Rites. We produced p short videos highlighting the finalists and overall winners stories for Sydney Opera House’s Facebook, Instagram and Youtube, ranking as the post with the highest engagement for Sydney Opera House in 2018.

In 2019 we returned to capture archival footage of Dance Rites.
